Economic Development - by conservative definition is a multi-faceted,
all-encompassing activity designed to increase the economic vitality of
a community and the area by utilizing all available resources - human,
financial, and natural.
In reality, a community's economic growth is actually a product of the
combined efforts of the entire community. The public-private partnership
that has evolved in Xenia includes the active participation and cooperation
of the entire community; government, education, finance, business and
industry, and local citizens.
And, since economic development cannot be isolated to a single community,
the partnership includes cooperation with Greene County, other Greater
Dayton Area communities, and the State of Ohio. In addition, the XEGC
and the Greene County Department of Development have developed a
unique team approach which provides for cooperative marketing efforts
and economic development services to maximize the development strengths
of both the City of Xenia and Greene County.
While the XEGC places primary emphasis on the industrial development
activities, the commercial-service-retail, and residential sectors of
the community are also significant factors in a community's economic growth.
The XEGC provides assistance in a variety of areas; primarily informational,
and through partnerships with a variety of community organizations and
individuals.
A very brief overview of the Goals and Objectives of the Xenia
Economic Development Program includes the following major activity
areas:
- Retention & Expansion of the existing employment and tax
base of the community;
- Attraction activities designed to show Xenia as an excellent
location to establish new facilities and operations;
- Site feasibility studies and the development of areas that
can be marketed as industrial sites complete with the necessary
infrastructure requirements and environmental or commercial safeguards;
- Community and regional cooperation activities to expand the
Xenia/Greene County presence in the national and international
economic development arenas;
- Community incentives and promotion, and to provide educational,
technical, and financial assistance as applicable; and
